Margaret Island in Budapest
If the weather is nice you can either walk or take the tram one stop along Margaret Bridge (also called Margit hid) half way over the River Danube and visit Margaret Island. Get off the tram at the stop midway over the bridge and walk down the road to the island.
There is a proper single lane running track which goes around the outer edge of the island and is used by everybody. Today we saw "real runners" as well as whole families jogging together, a woman jogging pushing a baby in a pram, little dogs and big dogs scampering and trotting along, from octogenarians to toddlers. So if you fancy a 5km on an island in the middle of the Danube at no risk of getting lost then this is where you need to be.
If you don't feel like running then have a stroll down the central path and look at the pretty trees, the sculptures, the pretty flowers, and the buildings, and watch the locals at play. In November it's quite sleepy but in the summer it's vibrant with musical fountains, street food, a carnival atmosphere ... and a lot more people.
