It rained a lot up-river last week and the Danube was the highest I have ever seen it in Budapest. The lower parts of the riverside embankment roads were flooded and were closed to traffic. This gave some people the chance to have some fun, riding bikes through the floodwater, paddling and even picnicking by the waters edge were top favourites.

We had one scary moment when the Number 2 tram went through a small tunnel and we could see the water level 20 ft above on the other side of the retaining wall, everyone stopped talking as we inched through at crawling speed, it felt like everyone held their breath for two minutes until we came out at the other side of Chain bridge.
