What are Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium posts, which act
as artificial tooth roots, placed into the jaw bone to anchor replacement
teeth, a bridge or a denture. Titanium is the best metal to use
as it is well tolerated by the body.
Dental Implants feel and look natural. They will
feel like your own teeth. You will forget you ever had a missing
tooth and there will be no need to hide your smile because of missing
teeth. Smile, speak and eat again with comfort and confidence.
The different parts to a Dental
Implant
An implant is made up of 3 separate parts; the
titanium post which is inserted into the jawbone, the abutment
which is attached to the titanium post after a number of months, and the crown which is placed
on top of the abutment.
The Dental Implant Procedure
The surgery is normally done under a local anaesthesia. In some cases with anxious patients sedation is used as well so you will be less aware of the procedure and more relaxed.
Implant surgery is carried out in 2 stages. The first stage of the surgery is the placing of the implant itself.
The bone is exposed in the area of the missing tooth. A small hole
is drilled and the titanium post is carefully inserted into the
bone. The gum is then stitched over the post and left to heal for
3-6 months. After the surgery there may be some slight discomfort,
swelling or bruising but this usually disappears within a few days.
The stitches are normally removed after one week. During the following
months the bone grows around the post making it secure. Stage 2
happens 3-6 months later once the implant is secure and a porcelain
crown is placed on top of the implant.
There are 2 options for the dental implant surgery:
OPTION 1 (stitches removed at
home)
3 days
Day 1 Arrival, consultation, x-ray
Day 2 Implant Surgery
Day 3 Departure
OPTION 2 (stitches removed in
Budapest)
7 days
Day 1 Arrival, consultation, x-ray
Day 2 Implant Surgery
Day 7 Removal of stitches, Departure
All surgery is performed under local anaesthesia
and may be supplemented with sedative drugs or IV sedation
(if requested by the patient or if deemed necessary).
If you do not have enough jawbone where the implant
is to be placed a longer stay in Budapest is required so that we
can plan for the type of surgery you need.
Dental Implants can be used to:
Replace a single tooth
If you have one missing tooth one implant is placed with one crown
Replace several teeth
If you have lost several teeth 2 or more implants can be placed
to support a bridge, you do not necessarily need one implant per gap.
Replace all your teeth
At least 6-8 implants on each arch can be placed to support 10 or more teeth with fixed bridgework.
Retain dentures
2-4 implants on each arch can be placed to retain removable dentures making them more secure and comfortable
Prices of Dental Implants
Can you see prices cheaper elsewhere? When you have an implant you don't just need the implant.
What do you need? You need the titanium implant, an abutment (an attachment between the crown and the implant), a healing attachment, a crown, x-rays, local anaesthetic, surgical procedures and sometimes bone augmentation if your bone levels in your jaw are low.
All the extras might add up to much more than our price.
Who should have Dental Implants
Anyone who wants to replace missing teeth.

Are you a candidate for titanium implants
Implants are not suitable for everyone. You must
have healthy gums and have good general health. You must also
have an adequate depth, quality and density of bone in your jaw
to support the implant. If you smoke you might not be a candidate
for implants.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Implants help stop bone loss. When a tooth is
lost some of the bone in the area may disappear. This is known as
bone resorption. The bone loss can be rapid but can vary between
individuals. Placing an implant helps minimise the bone loss by
stimulating the surrounding bone which then becomes stronger and
more dense.

Alternatives to Dental Implants
Bridgework - an alternative to implants. The disadvantage
of bridgework is that healthy teeth either side of the missing teeth
have to be filed down to retain the bridge.
The smallest bridge is a 3-unit bridge that fixes
over the gap and the teeth on either side of the gap.
With an implant there is no need to prepare/grind
down teeth either side of the missing tooth.
Dentures - an alternative to implants.
Oral Surgery
Sometimes patients are considered unsuitable for
implants without further procedures such as bone grafting/augmentation
and tissue regeneration.
Bone Grafting and Augmentation
To successfully have implants there has to be
enough depth, quality and density of jawbone. Once a natural tooth
is lost or extracted, bone loss in the jawbone occurs. If teeth
have been missing for a long time it is possible that significant
bone loss will have occurred and some form of bone augmentation
will be required at the same time as the placing of the implants.
The optimum time to place an implant after extraction
is about two months. Any infection in the local area must be resolved
before implants are placed.
If there is not enough bone in the local area
where the implant is to be placed, bone can be taken from a number
of sites including some areas around the jaw or the hip. Membranes
and synthetic material are often placed in the local area following
bone grafting to promote healing and bone growth.
Sometimes these procedures can take many months
before the mouth is ready for the next stage of treatment.
